Hi, and welcome to journeytoclearskin.com!
My name is Tim Ponticello and my goal is to help people who have tried everything get rid of their acne and achieve clear skin without expensive drugs or harsh chemicals.
Like you, I suffered with soul-crushing acne for years. My story begins my sophomore year of college (I was 20 at the time) when my acne suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
Some of the all-too-common things I dealt with on a daily basis include:
- Waking up dreading that first glance in the mirror
- Hiding in my apartment while my friends go out to have a good time
- Being afraid to talk to the other sex
And on and on.
People who have not had acne truly don’t understand the toll it takes on our self-esteem.
My friends and family would say things like, “It’s not that bad” or “I never really notice it.” But that did not change how shitty it made me feel on the inside.
I never suffered with acne in my teenage years, but here I was away from home (in what is supposed to be some of the best years of your life) and I am stricken with this awful condition.
The first thing I did was try over-the-counter (OTC) wipes and creams. Some of these products worked temporarily to get rid of a small portion of my acne, but it wasn’t the perfect clear skin I wanted.
I dabbled with several different OTC products for about 9-12 months before finally getting fed up with not getting results. I then decided to schedule an appointment with a dermatologist.
Excited to finally be under “professional care” for my acne, I walked into my initial appointment in a great mood. “Finally” I thought to myself, “I’m going to get rid of this fucking acne.”
My dermatologist prescribed a prescription grade cream to apply to my face (I can’t remember which brand to be completely honest… this was 10 years ago now). “This is it” I thought to myself. “This has to work.”
After all, it was prescribed by a licensed professional who knows what they’re doing, right?!
That cream didn’t work, nor did any of the subsequent treatments my derm prescribed me. I continued seeing my derm for about a year before finally giving up on him.
Luckily, I never went down the path of Accutane. My derm mentioned it to me, but the side effects scared the living hell out of me.
After giving up on my dermatologist I decided to go back to OTC products and gave Proactiv a shot. The incredible advertising and celebrity endorsements hooked me.
I have to say… Proactiv worked better for me than any other treatment I had tried before (even the treatments from my derm). But there were a couple problems:
- I absolutely hated the way it made my face feel (dry skin, anyone?)
- I was a slave to a time-consuming (and expensive) morning and evening routine
- If I stopped using it, my acne came back worse than before
- It never really cleared up all of my acne, only a fraction of it
In the end, Proactiv ended up like all of the other treatments I tried: It worked a little bit, was time-consuming and expensive, and never really gave me the results I was looking for.
After giving up on Proactiv I hit rock bottom. I was on the verge of depression.
I hadn’t had a girlfriend in over three years (I was too afraid to even talk to a girl). I had sunken so much time and money into all these treatments without success. And here I still was with a face full acne.
At this point I was ready to give up and accept my fate that I would have acne forever.
Just when I thought all hope was lost, I ran across a post on another popular acne forum that talked about green smoothies and how they helped this one person get clear skin.
“Huh” I thought to myself. “You mean there’s actually a connection between diet and acne?”
I had no idea and had never considered it before.
I was skeptical, but since I literally had nothing to lose I decided to give the green smoothies a shot.
Fast forward about a year from that point in time and I successfully cleared about 95% of my acne both on my face and my back. And it wasn’t the semi-clear “dry as hell” skin I got from Proactiv and other products.
This was truly clear, glowing, HEALTHY skin… the kind you see in skin commercials. The kind that makes you HAPPY when you take that first look in the mirror.
I’m now 32 years old and have maintained my clear skin for nearly a decade, so I know this solutions WORKS and it works LONG TERM.
The green smoothies weren’t necessarily the magic bullet that got me clear, but they were a good starting point and helped me become aware of the foods I was putting in my body.
Here’s a recent picture of my daughter and I that shows my clear skin:
This website is my way of reaching a hand back and helping others who may be suffering. It’s to show you that there is a way out of the acne madness, and it can be achieved in a healthy way without the need for drugs and harsh chemicals.
I did it, and so have thousands of other people.
Thanks for reading a little about me, and I look forward to hearing your journey to clear skin!
